Accessing Computer Resources at UMKC

In order to access computer resources at UMKC, you must first activate your Exchange account.

Once you have successfully completed the account activation procedure, you can immediately access your email.

This document will tell you how to access:

Accessing Your Email

You can access your email account through web access or by using Microsoft Outlook in one of the IS-managed computer labs.

Web Access: your email account can be accessed from any computer with Internet access and a web browser by going to the following web site:

http://www.umkc.edu/exchange  

Microsoft Outlook: you can also access your email account in the IS Student Computer Labs by double-clicking the Microsoft Outlook icon located on your desktop.

Accessing Your Personal Storage Space

Your personal file storage space is located on an IS server.  These files can be accessed from a computer connected to the internet through ftp or from within the IS-managed computer labs via the Q: drive.

ftp: your personal file storage space can be accessed from any computer with Internet access and a web browser by typing the following in the "Address" field:

 

ftp://<your_username>@<the_first_letter_of_your_username>.home.students.umkc.edu

 

Note: You will need to enter your username and the first letter of your username where indicated in the above address.

Q: Drive: you can also access your personal file storage space in the IS-managed labs by following these steps:

 

1.  Double-click on the “My Computer” icon.

2.  From the list of options, double-click on the drive labeled “Q:”

 

 

Note: Be sure to save files to your Q: drive instead of the desktop, or else they will count against your 15MB Personal Profile quota instead of your 45MB of Personal Data Storage quota and slow down your startup time.

Accessing Your Personal Student Web Page Storage Space

Your personal student web page storage space is located on an IS server.  This data can be accessed from a computer connected to the internet through ftp or from within the IS-managed computer labs via the N: drive.

ftp: your personal student web page storage space can be accessed from any computer with Internet access and a web browser by typing the following in the "Address" field:

 

ftp://<your_username>@<the_first_letter_of_your_username>.web.students.umkc.edu

 

Note: You will need to enter your username and the first letter of your username where indicated in the above address.

N: Drive: you can also access your personal student web page storage space in the IS-managed labs by following these steps:

 

1.  Double-click on the “My Computer” icon.

2.  From the list of options, double-click on the drive labeled “N:”

 

3. You will need to find the folder labeled with the first letter of your username (SSO ID), and within that folder there will be another folder labeled with your SSO ID.
